How to Reassign LinkedIn Recommendations to The Correct Position.

I had an email this week asking how to change a recommendation for one job title to another title on their LinkedIn profile. This is probably the second most often asked question I am asked about LinkedIn. The most asked is should I upgrade to a premium account.

It is an involved and two step process but it can be done.

If a recommendation is attached to the wrong position or education, you can reassign it.

Step 1: Remove the position or education that the recommendation is currently attached to, and then add it back to your profile.

Move your cursor over Profile at the top of your homepage and select Edit Profile.
Scroll to the Experience or Education section and click the Edit icon next to the position or education where the recommendation is listed.
Copy the text in the Description box and paste it into a document to be used later.
Click the Remove this position link.
Click yes, then remove.
Click the +Add a Position link within the Experience section.
Copy and paste the job description (saved earlier) into the Description field.
Complete the fields for the position and click “save”.

Step 2: Assign the recommendation to a position.

Move your cursor over your photo in the top right of your homepage and select Privacy & Settings.

You may be prompted to sign in.
Under the Helpful Links section, click Manage your recommendations.
You’ll see the unassigned recommendation in the section titled, “you deleted the position” these Recommendations were associated with. Click the Reassign link next to the recommendation.
Choose the position you’d like to assign it to and click Apply.
The recommendation will now be displayed under the correct position on your profile.
